Nitin Sonawane

I am a 33-year-old engineer from India, a dedicated Gandhian, truth seeker, peace lover, World Traveler and adventurous spirit who has been walking the planet since 2016, spreading the message of peace and non-violence.

My Childhood :
Born In village name Rashin in Maharashtra state of India in 1991. I was born into a humble family where my mother worked tirelessly selling fish in the market, raising three sons with her hard work and boundless love. Despite being from a Hindu family, my mother practiced Christianity, my father observed the Ramadan fast of Islam, my grandmother followed Sikhism, and other family members embraced Hinduism, creating a rich and diverse spiritual environment in our home.”

Left Home at age of 17:
The ultimate truth of life and the universe—this profound question stirred my soul at the age of 17 and set me on a journey of self-discovery. Inspired by the teachings of Gautam Buddha, I realized that we cannot move closer to understanding the truth until we step out of our comfort zones. This realization resonates deeply with India’s spiritual wisdom, which emphasizes the importance of seeking beyond the familiar.
Saints and leaders like Guru Nanak Ji, who walked for 23 years across the world, remind us that walking brings us closer to nature, humanity, and the universe itself. Inspired by this wisdom, I stepped out of my home one day as a 17-year-old boy, yearning to find answers. Although I returned the next day to continue my education, that brief step into the unknown ignited a spark that continues to guide my journey to this day.

Education :
I completed a 4-year degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Sinhgad Academy of Engineering in Pune, graduating in 2013. Shortly after, I began working in the telecom industry, but after six months, I decided to leave my job. I was drawn to a deeper purpose and started working with a Gandhian organization, aligning my life with the principles of nonviolence and social harmony.

Working with Maharashtra Gandhi Smarak Nidhi in India
I dedicated a year and a half to working with the Maharashtra Gandhi Smarak Nidhi under the inspiring guidance of Dr. Kumar Saptarshi. During this time, I immersed myself in the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, gaining a profound understanding of his extraordinary legacy. Gandhi’s life is a testament to what one can achieve with unwavering dedication to truth and nonviolence. Few individuals in history have accomplished as much as he did in his 79 years, and his principles left an indelible mark on me, shaping my path and purpose.

A Journey of Global Connections:
The Maharashtra Gandhi Smarak Nidhi became the guardian of this mission, which thrived through the generous contributions of the public. This grassroots approach enabled me to connect with people from all walks of life, share Gandhi’s timeless ideals, and build enduring friendships across the globe. The support I received from individuals and communities was both humbling and inspiring.
Local people around the world played a crucial role in supporting me and my mission. From the villages of Africa to the bustling cities of Asia, the heartlands of America, and the historic towns of Europe, people from diverse cultures and backgrounds offered kindness, hospitality, and encouragement. Their warmth and generosity affirmed the universal appeal of Gandhi’s message.
Indian embassies around the world also played a pivotal role in amplifying this mission. They organized opportunities for me to deliver speeches at schools and colleges and helped foster connections with the Indian diaspora. Indians living abroad extended their heartfelt support by providing meals, accommodation, and invaluable moral encouragement. Together, the collective efforts of individuals and communities from every corner of the world strengthened the mission and its message of peace and nonviolence.
