Day 37 – Blog

Distance Walked: ~1110 km
Today’s Distance: 35 km

started the day from San Onofre Beach, right next to the Pacific Ocean, where I had camped overnight. It’s been two days without a shower, but the journey continues.

Originally, I had planned to walk 48 km today. However, after walking 13 km, I arrived at the entrance of a U.S. Army base, where two young soldiers stopped me. They asked about my trolley and what I was carrying. I explained that it contained only clothes and food. When they asked for identification, I showed them my passport, but since it was Indian, they informed me that non-U.S. citizens were not allowed to walk through the base. After making a few calls to their senior officers, they confirmed that I couldn’t proceed on foot through their area.

There were three possible routes to San Diego—two through military land and one along the freeway. Since walking wasn’t allowed on any of them, I had no choice but to turn back. I walked 3 km to a vista point where I saw some cars stopped on the hill along Interstate 5. I tried asking for help, but it didn’t work out at first. Eventually, I met two young men who kindly offered me a ride to Oceanside, where I could continue my walk.

I found a great camping spot at San Elijo State Beach for the night. If all goes well, I’ll reach San Diego in two days.

Gratitude 🙏
